Connnie Sundays 1929-1932
Frank Godwin’s pioneering comic strip, Connie transformed the landscape of American newspaper funnies by introducing one of the medium's first true female adventure heroes. Debuting as a Sunday page in April 1929, the strip initially captured the lighthearted spirit of a 1920s flapper. However, as the Great Depression deepened, Connie Kurridge evolved into a remarkably resourceful professional, working as an aviator, reporter, and detective.
Godwin, a master illustrator, infused the weekly pages with a sophisticated, fine-art style influenced by classical book illustration, eventually shifting into breathtaking science fiction narratives, featuring time travel and cosmic space travel.
